Rob Lutes
Rob Lutes's masterful fingerstyle guitar work and soulful voice bring an unmistakable intensity to his live performances. Over eight albums, he has steadily built a collection of exquisite songs that inhabit the intersection of blues, folk, Americana, and the contemporary singer-songwriter genre.
In 2018 he was named CFMA Contemporary Singer of the Year. His most recent album, 2017's Walk in the Dark, hit #1 on the Roots Music Report North American Folk Chart in December 2018, earned a GAMIQ nomination (QC) for Folk Album of the Year and was named Album of the Year by Folk n Roots Radio with Jan Hall.
In 2017, he performed in Vimy, France as part of Canada’s 100th anniversary commemoration of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
Originally from New Brunswick, the long-time Montreal resident is a winner of multiple songwriting prizes, including Kerrville New Folk, ISC, and Philly Songwriters Road Song contest. He has been nominated as songwriter of the Year by both the Canadian Folk Music Awards and the Maple Blues awards and in 2016 was chosen by the Lunenburg Folk Festival to write songs about his home province for that festival's Canada 150 commemorative compilation album Nothing Like Home. In 2015 he was runner-up in the Toronto Blues Society's Cobalt Prize for Contemporary Blues Composition.
Rob has also been nominated as Maple Blues Acoustic Act of the Year multiple times and as Male Vocalist of the Year.
He has toured extensively across Canada, Europe and the US.
